KYRIN SCOTT is our May 2020 Student of the Month.
He was selected for alerting his family and getting them out of the house safely during a fire. This was his first year at Leo, and COVID caused a wrinkle in his plans, but he plans to join the Track Team.
After high school, Kyrin plans to go to college and study to become a doctor.
His favorite part about Leo “is the Brotherhood, every student at Leo knows each other and jokes around with each other and when we need help, we help each other out.”

CHARLES MORRIS is our September 2020 Student of the Month.
Charles is a quiet, pleasant, respectful young man. He has been a hard worker and a good student throughout his time at Leo. Recently, he participated in the Eisenhower Fellowships Foundation program with former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Charles was attentive and engaged throughout the lecture and the question he submitted was indicative of how thoughtful he is.
Charles is a member of the Leo Chess Team and National Honor Society.
After graduation, he plans to become an attorney and use his talents to make the world a better place for everyone.
His favorite thing about Leo is the challenging curriculum.

WAKEETA DAVIS is our October 2020 Student of the Month.
Since coming to Leo, Wakeeta has enjoyed being part of our Restorative Justice Program and participating in peace circles. After graduation in May, he plans to study psychology and philosophy. At some point, he would also like to pursue pro gaming. Wakeeta’s favorite part of Leo is the community and the family.
“At Leo, there’s a sense of love and brotherhood you don’t see too often.”

TYRONE RADFORD is our November 2020 Student of the Month.
Tyrone has been incredibly hardworking and thoughtful in class. He consistently asks questions and adds to discussions both for his own and his classmates’benefit, even when that benefit is giving us a perfectly timed laugh.
He is shaping up to be a great example of a Leo Man because when he makes a mistake such as missing an assignment or being tardy, he doesn’t just apologize; he puts in the work to make it right.
Due to COVID restrictions, Tyrone has not yet been able to participate in many Leo activities. However, he looks forward to playing sports and he loves to read.
Although he just began high school, Tyrone is already planning for college, with a goal to become an entrepreneur and CEO of his own cell phone and cable company.
“Leo is a great example of the best high school ever. The teachers are awesome.”

JA’ CORI ELAM is our December 2020 Student of the Month.
Ja’ Cori went above and beyond the past few months. He persevered through his speech impediment and did multiple speaking presentations, even doing more than he was asked to do.
Since coming to Leo, he has participated in: Basketball, Football, Choir, and Drumline. Ja’ Cori feels that participating in all these activities has helped him to mature and gain self-confidence and looks forward to joining and participating in more activities at Leo.
After graduating from Leo he plans to attend college, majoring in Physical Therapy and minoring in Music. While in college, Ja’ Cori plans to play basketball or football, but says his “first priority will be to put God first and focus on my studies and everything else will fall in place.”
“My favorite thing about attending Leo is gaining brotherhood and friendship. One of the things that I like about Leo is that Leo is a family oriented school, and it made me feel accepted regardless of my personality. When I came to Leo, I was nervous about speaking, but once I got there, I was embraced by staff as well as students who encouraged me and promoted me to take my time and speak. The support that was given was amazing to my mom, and now I can say that coming to Leo Catholic High School was one of the greatest experiences and the best decision that I could have ever made.”

DEON EDMONDS is our January 2021 Student of the Month.
Deon was selected as the Student of the Month because he is very consistent with his hard work and reaches out to his classmates to help them understand concepts. He is shaping himself into a very strong young man.
Deon is also a member of the basketball team, and even though he is only a freshman, he has his sights set on playing basketball in college after graduation.
Deon’s favorite part about Leo is the teachers because of all “the messages and advantages they give us as boys becoming men.”

CAMERON CLEVELAND is our February 2021 Student of the Month.
Cameron represented Leo extremely well when he was interviewed by Fox 32 News for a Black History Month story. He’s one of our most dependable volunteers for service projects, along with being ranked number one in the Junior Class and the captain and leading scorer on the Leo Basketball Team. He is also a contributor to the Citywide Education Working Group, in collaboration with the Mayor’s office, representing on behalf of the Archdiocese. Cameron is a true Leo Man.
After graduation, Cameron plans to attend college and play basketball. He hopes basketball will help to pay for his degree while he studies to become a computer engineer or sports agent.
Cameron’s favorite part about Leo is the family/brotherhood aspect of the community. “I love that Mr. Rawls, Mr. McGrath, and the rest of the staff are always looking out for me and blessing me with opportunities. The encouragement and appreciation from all is also cherished.”

TIM DURR is our March 2021 Student of the Month.
Tim was nominated because he is excelling academically, in extracurricular activities, and as an athlete where he is also a leader to his Leo Brothers. Tim is consistent and stellar in all of his efforts.
Tim is a member of the football and track teams and looks forward to the end of COVID restrictions so that choir may resume.
Post-secondary plans for this Student of the Month include studying business or engineering in college.
Tim’s favorite part about Leo is the strong brotherhood.

MATTHEW HERNANDEZ is our April 2021 Student of the Month.
Matthew contributes to Leo in many different ways, most notably the classroom, where he maintains a 4.0 GPA. He’s also a standout on the baseball team, helping Leo to some early-season wins with strong play and a team-first attitude that’s reflected in his willingness to play several positions. He has a positive, cooperative demeanor and frequently volunteers for service projects.
This member of the National Honor Society hopes to become a professional baseball player or computer engineer.
“My favorite part of Leo is the motivation you get from the teachers. They never push you away from learning; they push us to succeed.”

ESAI JACINTO is our May 2021 Student of the Month.
Esai is an attentive student who asks questions and has maintained excellent grades all year, earning him the number one ranking in his class. He is also a member of the wrestling and baseball teams.
After Leo, Esai hopes to attend a competitive college or university on scholarship and go into business or engineering. He plans to continue participating in athletics at the collegiate level.
Esai’s favorite part about Leo (so far) is how the teachers are so engaged with the students, “making sure we stay on top of our work and helping us to do better every day. I also like how it’s a little school with many personalities … it’s always fun to be in school and doing sports because the days never get boring.”

ERROL BRICE is our August 2021 Student of the Month.
He was selected for exemplary coursework in Government.
Errol is a member of the Leo Chess Team, and he plans to major in History at the University of Illinois after graduation next year.
“My favorite thing about Leo is the personal connections you can make with the teachers.”

Aaron Murillo is our September 2021 Student of the Month.
Aaron is one of the strongest freshmen both academically and behaviorally. Aaron is definitely one of the most reliable students at Leo. Even as a Freshman, he is on the track to be a great student leader here and a great example of a Leo Man.
Aaron is a member of the Leo Baseball Team and jumped right in by playing “Fall Ball.” Although it is several years from now, Aaron intends to pursue a career in biotechnology.
“My favorite thing about Leo is how understanding and helpful the teachers are.”

SHANE SHAMBLEY is our October 2021 Student of the Month.
He was selected for being an excellent student. He is still exploring sports and activities at Leo and is excited to become more involved.
Shane’s desire to help is the impetus behind his plan to become a doctor.
His favorite part about Leo is the teachers. “They make me feel safe and they inspire me to reach out and help others.”

JOHNATHAN AGEE is our November 2021 Student of the Month.
Johnathan was selected for his work ethic, responsibility, good behavior and teamwork over the months. A teacher remarked, “Johnathan is an excellent student who works hard everyday in my class. Recently, he has gone from being a quiet leader to one who takes pride in guiding and directing both the underclassmen, as well as his classmates. I’m impatiently waiting to see how much more he develops into his senior year.”
Johnathan is Vice President of the Student Council, currently on the Leo Wrestling team, and proud to be in the National Honor Society.
After Leo, he plans to go to college on an athletic scholarship and major in Computer Science with the goal of a career in Computer Programming – Gaming Design. Johnathan has always loved video games and one day plans to open up a small business to design games.
“My favorite part of Leo is actually the education[al] opportunities we get. There are way more opportunities to progress with my education at Leo than at any other school that I’ve been to. Instead of missing the opportunity or taking it for granted, I should embrace these classes that I have been presented with and learn all I can so I can get ahead of everyone else in the future.”

DAVID HANNAH is our December 2021 Student of the Month.
David was selected for the leadership that he shows both inside and beyond the classroom. He is very respectable.
David is a member of both the cross country and track teams.
Although he is still exploring his passion, he knows that he will attend college after Leo.
His favorite part of Leo “is that we are all a family here…doesn’t matter who you are; your brothers got your back.”

AUSTIN FORD is our January 2022 Student of the Month.
Austin was nominated because he has been a big-time contributor to Leo throughout his senior year. In addition to starting on the football and basketball teams and maintaining an A-honor-roll GPA, Austin served as MC of the Veterans Memorial Observance at Leo on Friday, Nov. 11 and did a fine job. Three weeks later, he was one of three seniors who shared MC duties at Leo’s annual Scholarship Benefit and performed like a polished public speaker in front of a room full of Leo’s most influential supporters. In the four years he has been at Leo Austin has always done us proud as a Leo representative.
He was on the All Catholic First Team in football and hopes to play football and/or basketball in college while studying business management.
His favorite part about Leo is that “all the kids get along with the teachers.”
